Bad Injector Cause White Smoke. I have had white smoke due to a plugged fuel filter starving the cp3 and injectors but that is rare. If the diesel injector is stuck open (or stays open longer then it should) the fuel is not compressed and burned at all, comes out of the exhaust pipe white…but if the injector is injecting the fuel at the correct time but injecting too much fuel the fuel burns incompletely which exhausts the tail pipe black…this is why in the winter (where it is quite cold) that the engine will exhaust white.

This means too much fuel in the engine that needs to burn off and be expelled. So there is a chance your fpr is going, or you got some bad fuel causing an injector to stick. If the smell is oil you might have a turbo seal going bad on you, it will produce white smoke as well.
